Recipe: Gooey Chocolate Bliss Balls (with lots of healthy stuff)

We love this recipe in our household, the kids love to roll the sticky mix into little balls.

These bliss balls are soft-textured, yummy chocolatey-orange flavoured pieces sent from heaven! They are easy, healthy and fantastically delicious – and a true lifesaver in times like this when the whole family needs instant healthy snacks to keep us at our best throughout the day. These bliss balls are full of healthy fats, antioxidants, protein and vitamins. And – your kids will never know there’s heaps of kumara in there!

Get your little ones to help to roll the balls and if you’re up for it, roll them in shredded coconut or cacao powder after they are formed.

This recipe will make approx. 50 balls. You can either half the batch or just go for it now and freeze them for up to 6 months.

  • 1 cup dates (or other dried fruits like raisins)
  • 1 cup of cashews and/or almonds
  • 1/4 cup cacao powder
  • 1 cup of shredded coconut.
  • 1 cup of orange kumara, peeled, diced and boiled until soft
  • The zest of 1 orange (organic if possible)
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Gently toast the coconut and put it along with all the other ingredients into a food processor.

Blitz until combined (pushing the mixture down occasionally if it sticks).

Using a tablespoon, dip it in warm water and roll the mixture into small balls.

Chill in the fridge for at least half an hour before eating – it’s worth the wait!
